The Favorite Chore

I am sure I am not alone when I say that my kids don't really like chores.  But I feel alone when I am standing in the middle of the house in the middle of a mess that I likely didn't make and requesting assistance.

My kids are pretty savvy about the messes they make at home.  They know what I will tolerate on the floor or where to stash something if they hear me coming up the stairs.  It is when they have friends over that the chaos ensues.

In our family, it works best if each boy tackles a separate room where the mental cleaning scorecard isn't being evaluated on a moment by moment basis – he picked up 3 less blocks than I did!  Setting a timer for 5 minutes can be a good finish line motivation.  Often that is all that is needed if it is used wisely.
