Burbmom.net has been scouring the Dallas-Fort-Worth Metroplex to find summer activities for children. Luckily there are TONS of options for summer family fun in DFW. Here is what we have found for the areas in and around Denton County. The list is long, but I am sure I missed some of the great things that Denton County has to offer. If you know of anything I missed, please add it to the comments below or email me the information at holly@burbmom.net and I will continue to update!
*drum roll*
Let’s bring on the summer fun:
Abrakadoodle – Remarkable Art Education – classes and camps – Multiple locations in/close to Denton County including Welcome to Kids Activities!
My name is Holly Homer & I am the Dallas mom of three boys…
Elm Fork Education Center in the UNT Environmental Science building offers morning science camps (mostly outdoors) and extended day options as well. There is a pond where they explore critters as well as many other options. Reasonably priced, and open to the public during certain hours if “camp” isn’t what you are looking for, but rather an afternoon activity. The camps for kids 2nd-8th grade.

I have an 8 year old boy and a 14 year old girl. I am looking for a camp or activities to keep them both busy that is free or cheap. Any suggestions? $165 a week per kid is just out of control.
Hi Tanja, if there is a camp on the She Is Dallas list that looks like something your children would enjoy, I would recommend calling them to see if they offer sibling discounts. Another option is checking out a local YMCA or community recreation center. Many of them have some fun summer camp programs.
Great information. My son is 13 and we have the hardest time find things for him to due during the summer while my husband and I work.
Don’t think you have this on there…the Denton Water Works swim park does free story time every Friday at 10am in the summer. It’s fun for toddlers and it’s free! 🙂
Awesome list. Thanks!
For my 3 boys, there will be lots of soccer and for the first time LEARNING.
I found an excellent e-learning site called http://www.BigIQkids.com that is offering a 3 month summer special for $29.99 that includes all their K-7 programs.
My kids think it is the GREATEST and are so happy to be online . I’m one happy mom and am excited the boys are having fun practicing spelling words and learning vocabulary, math and US geography. Club Penguin good bye!
This is a great list! Thank you. Other additions? Michael’s classes, movie madness at Rave and Studio Movie Grill, Denton library events and Natatorium, Barnes And Noble story times. Plus the Highland Village water retreat infront of B&N.
Thank you for posting this! We are about to move to the area and know very little about it. I have been scouring the Internet for activities for my prescholler, and this is the by far the most comprehensive list of options I have seen.
I plan to look into several of these possibilities.
