Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables would reduce many of the cases of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer plaguing this country. Most Americans consume more calories from soda pop than from vegetables each day. This doesn't have to be the case!

Now that summer is just around the corner, locally grown fruits and veggies will soon be in season and ready for harvest! Better yet, have you ever thought of putting in a small garden in your own back yard?  NOW is the time if so!  The best produce to grow in the Dallas area is swiss chard, cantaloupe, green snap beans, snow peas, okra, corn, summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, turnips, carrots and cucumbers.  This is the most cost-effective and convenient way to increase your produce consumption this year.

Another good option for obtaining the freshest fruits & veggies is by visiting a local Farmer’s Market.  This produce is picked at its ripest point and doesn’t have to travel very far from the farm to the consumer.  Check with your community's newspaper or website to see if there is one in your neck of the woods! Or try the famous Dallas Farmer's Market downtown:
