No Senior Should Go Hungry or Be Forgotten
The holidays bring people closer together. Family, friends, and neighbors reach out to each other with gifts and warm wishes to let them know they are cared for.
Have you considered reaching out to the less fortunate in our community as part of your holiday celebrations?
If so, you might want to look into volunteering some time to deliver meals to the elderly in your community.
The Visiting Nurse Association's Meals on Wheels program provides a
nutritious, freshly prepared, hot meal to
Dallas County residents who are unable to provide or prepare their own meals due to illness, advanced age, or disability. These meals are prepared in
VNA's Beatrice M. Haggerty Kitchen with generous support of
donors and partners. Meals are delivered Monday – Friday throughout the year.
She Is Dallas Info: Nearly 4,000 volunteers deliver nutritious meals to the homes of our Meals on Wheels clients along with kind words and a caring spirit, reaching out daily to our community's seniors who are alone and hungry. Over one million meals every year are delivered to seniors who are homebound or dining at senior centers in Dallas County. For more information, please visit the Visiting Nurse Association website or follow VNA of Texas Facebook or VNA Texas Twitter.
Are you interested in volunteering?
You can deliver just once a week, once a month, or just through your employer’s Day of Caring Program. You would deliver meals in your own vehicle, donating your time and gas costs. You will get a route of meal deliveries that are close together and efficiently planned out.
The meals for each route are packed out in two coolers (hot and cold foods) and delivered to multiple locations throughout Dallas County. A typical route serves 10 to 12 clients and takes about two hours to deliver in the late morning hours.
Training is provided on first and third Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:30am at 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas Texas 75247, and by appointment. Just fill out the
Volunteer Interest form for more information.
