Rocky Horror Picture ShowIf you’ve seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you will know that you never want to get stuck with a flat tire in a storm in a dark and eerie place. A sweet, innocent couple seeks help at a creepy mansion and end up meeting a cast of weird characters and even weirder monsters. The show has an incredible cult following with full audience participation.   Movie goers come prepared with props that coincide with the movie scenes.   We have included a complete list of props that some people might bring.   However, please check with the theater and respect their policies on props.   Some may be approved, others not.   Some theaters sell their own props to use and don’t want any others brought in.

Here is a list of some props that audience members might want to bring along to the show:
  • Rice –   There is a wedding near the beginning of the movie.   As the couple leaves the church, the audience follows along with the other characters on the screen by throwing rice.   Yes, in some theaters it is really ok to throw rice in a theater.
  • Newspapers – When the main couple, Brad and Janet, are out in the rain, Janet covers her head with a newspaper.   Audience members pull out their newspapers and cover their heads too.
  • Water guns –   What better way to feel like you are in the rain along with Brad and Janet? Watch out for sprays from nearby guests though.   You might get a little wet…although you do have some newspaper with you, right?
  • Flashlights – During the “There’s a light” verse of “Over at the Frankenstein Place, feel free to “light up” the theater with your flashlights.
  • Rubber gloves – During and after the creation speech, Frank snaps his rubber gloves three times. Later, Magenta pulls these gloves off his hands. You should snap your gloves in sync each time to create a fantastic sound effect.   Bwa ha ha ha!
  • Noisemakers –   The Transylvanians respond with applause and noisemakers at the end of the great creation speech. Feel free to do the same.   Hmm, maybe you should bring ear plugs too?
  • Confetti – At the end of the “Charles Atlas Song” reprise, the Transylvanians throw confetti as Rocky and Frank head toward the bedroom. Yes, you can do the same.
  • Toilet paper, preferably “Scots” brand – There is a scene where Brad cries out “Great Scott!” as Dr. Scott enters the lab.   The audience throws their roll of toilet paper in the air in response.
  • Toast – When Frank proposes a toast at dinner, members of the audience throw toast into the air (preferably unbuttered… things could get sticky).
  • Party hat – Put on your fun party hat so you’ll fit right in at the dinner table when Frank does the same.
  • Bell – During the song “Planet Schmanet Janet,” ring the bell when Frank sings “Did you hear a bell ring?”
  • Cards – During the song “I’m Going Home,” Frank sings “Cards for sorrow, cards for pain”. At this point you should shower the theater with cards.

  1. Do NOT bring props to the Lakewood Theater. The cast sells prop packs of the approved items so you don’t have to worry about what to bring/not bring.
