“Playing With Time” is the current exhibit at Sci-Tech Discovery Center. You’ll discover a previously hidden world: events that occur too quickly or too slowly for humans to see. The flap of a hummingbird wing. The expansion of the universe. This imaginative exhibit invites you to examine these invisible dynamics by using high-speed photography, time-lapse videos and animations to effectively turn the world's speed up and down. “Playing With Time” is open to the public until December 31st.
Just a few of the creative demonstrations you will find in the “Playing With Time” exhibit includes a study in strobe lights. The lights at this station blink and flicker too fast for our eyes to notice. Instead they look like solid static lights. However, with a strobe wheel, you will see each of the lights differently and actually see their unique pulses.
Paint with Time is a really fun demonstration of how things change over time. There are different scenarios to choose such as Dallas skyline or the four seasons. You select a time frame and then run your finger over the screen to change the picture to reflect the chosen scene. For example, you can see the changes in trees over four different seasons or see how Dallas has changed over 25 years.
You even get to use a high speed camera to create your own slow motion video of an actual kernel of corn popping! How cool is that?!
Make plans to attend the upcoming Moonlight, Magic, and Martinis event to support Sci-Tech Discovery Center and the great educational resource they provide to our community. And if you haven’t experienced “Playing With Time” for yourself then you really must make TIME to do so. Their regular exhibit hours are Mondays, CLOSED; Tuesday “ Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm; Saturday, 10:00am-6:00pm; Sunday, noon-6:00pm.
