The Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art offers a special program for families on the first day of each month.   Families can enjoy performances, face painting, storytelling, art activities, and more. The theme for the AdventureAsia Family Day event for the month of March will be Picture It! Bring your camera and celebrate the exhibition David Gibson: Toward Kasuga Shrine Along Pathways of Lanterns. Compare digital and manual cameras, make your own pin hole camera, take a family portrait, and go on a photo taking tour of the galleries.

My children both have kid-friendly cameras and they love taking pictures of everything.   I think they will have a great time learning more about cameras and photography and I will love sharing the incredible art work with them.   Of course, I also love that the entire event is FREE! Here is the detailed schedule of events for Saturday: Walkup Workshop: Pinhole Cameras 10AM “ 2PM | Grand Gallery Pinhole cameras have no lens and use only a tiny hole large enough to let light expose the film behind it. Take a turn to look through a pinhole camera and learn how to make your own at home. Art Activity: Sun Prints 10AM “ 2PM | Trammell Crow Center Plaza Use solar power to expose shadows made by objects placed on special light sensitive paper. It’s one of the oldest methods of photography, where the basics of making an image started. Gallery Game: Otedama 10AM “ 2 PM | Grand Gallery Otedama is a traditional Japanese children’s game played with small bean bags tossed and juggled in a game similar to jacks. Try your hand at the different variations of this exciting game. Touch Table: Camera Comparisons 10AM “ 2PM | Arbor Walk Take a trip down memory lane and look at cameras old and new. Feel different types of film, explore how negatives look and work, and see the end product in a variety of prints. Crow Kids: Positive Negative Space 10AM “ 2PM | Grand Gallery Young children and toddlers can explore the relationship between positive and negative space while creating the image of a deer. Deer are often found at the Kasuga Shrine and are designated as National Treasures in Japan.  Family Tour of David Gibson: Toward Kasuga Shrine Along a Pathway of Lanterns 10:30AM | Meet in the Front Lobby Join museum educators for a lively family tour of the new exhibition David Gibson: Toward Kasuga Shrine Along Pathways of Lanterns. Yogiños: Yoga for Youthâ„¢ Family Yoga 11AM & Noon | Grand Gallery Strike a pose “ a yoga pose. Yogiños is an OHMazingâ„¢ yoga for kids program in English, Spanish, and Sanskrit that aligns bodies, hearts, and minds. Mats provided. Family Photo Booth 11AM “ 1:30 PM | Jade Room Pose for a family portrait in this fun photo booth. Take your pictures home and be sure to friend the Crow Collection of Facebook to see all the photographs captured during the day. Take a Photo Tour of the Collection 10 AM “ 2PM | Arbor Walk See the collection through a new lens. Grab your camera and a guide book and investigate the art while taking photographs of some of the Crow Collection's cherished pieces. Face Painting for Children Noon “ 1:30 PM | Trammell Crow Center Plaza Get camera ready with the artist of Your Enchanted Face. Face painting will be offered on a first come first served basis. Tour of the Collection 1 PM | Meet in the Front Lobby Join Crow Collection docents for enlightened conversations in the galleries and take a tour of the different works of art found in the museum.
