When it comes to gift giving, there always seems to be just one gift that everyone has to have. Remember the years everyone had to had “Tickle Me Elmo” or “Zhu Zhu Pets” or “Cabbage Patch Dolls” (ok showing my age). The holiday shopping season counts on a trends. But this year’s trend doesn’t include one particular gift — it’s about giving a more affordable and thoughtful present.
Consumer expert Andrea Woroch put together a list of the hottest gift giving trends of 2011:
1. The Latest Craze
This is a gift that continues to get hot every year. The gift of the cheap gift card. Sites like GiftCardGranny or Restaurant.com offer gift cards that cost a fraction of it’s face value.
2. An Experience
Similar to the gift card, some people are giving the gift of an experience. Something lik a voucher to go skydiving, or to a sporting event or even a massage or spa appointment. Just be sure it doesn’t have an expiration date.
3. What Goes Around Comes Around
Re-gifting use to be a no-no, but it’s now becoming all the rage. In fact you can visit regiftable.com to read about some re-gifting tips and horror stories.
4. The Gift of Gifts
Consider giving the gift of a donation. Sites like justgive.org sell charity gift cards, where the recipient can donate their card to a million different charities. And you can write this off on your taxes.
5. Learn to Accessorize
With everyone picking up an iPad or Kindle this holiday season, why not grab the case or headphones that go with this big ticket item.
6. A Festivus for the Rest of Us
Instead of giving a gift, why not host a holiday party. Ask everyone to bring something easy and affordable. Â This helps create memories without breaking the bank.
7. The Easiest Gift of All
There is no better gift than the gift of time. Rent a movie, order a pizza and have a movie marathon with the entire family. Or have game night for everyone. Your options are unlimited.
These “7 Gift-Giving Trends that Won’t Break the Bank” are great ideas. Thanks Andrea.
