Today was one of those rare and treasured family outing days.

4 year old boy on swing

The boys didn’t have school due to parent/teacher conferences and I sped through those meetings and was back home by 9.

Blog-Stedman had the day off so the stars were properly aligned and we packed up the SUV and went to the children’s museum (yes, a later post will describe every moment of that), out to eat and then blog-Stedman dropped me off at IKEA while he took the boys to the Lego store.

*insert angel choir here*

During lunch the boys were chatting over chips and salsa.   They discussed all sorts of topics on which they disagreed, but there was one that was unanimous…none of them are getting married.

I told them that they HAD to get married because I needed grandkids.

Rhett(4) shrugged his shoulders and said, “I guess I will get married…to baby Benjamin.”

Reid(7):   There are two problems with that.   Number one is that Benjamin is a boy and you need to marry a girl.   The other problem is that Benjamin is in our family and you can’t marry someone in our family.

Rhett:   Then who will I marry?

Me:   Mommy will pick out a nice girl for you.

Rhett *shuddering*:   I don’t WANT a nice girl!   I want a dirty girl!

I don’t even have a response for that.

  1. Tell him I saw some of those kinds of girls in the French Quarter last weekend and he SO does not want one of those… 😉 HA HA HA!

  2. Oh my goodness!! That it TOO funny! My 7 year old son had informed me he will never marry – he wants to be a playa with women on demand. He does not want to have kids – he wants to raise dogs. I often wonder where I went wrong!

  3. First of all I want a teaching job, 7 weeks off in the summer.
What a great quote, my eldest is 5 and he’s told us that he will be marrying the girl across the street, she’s 17!!!

  4. A dirty girl. Too bad Craigslist changed their policies.

My son doesn’t want to get married either but he does want kids. Yeah, he’s a keeper.

  5. Sitting on my couch, all by myself, laughing so hard I’m almost crying. Seriously Holly. How many hundred times have you read those “kids say the funniest things” articles. NONE of them has EVER been as funny as, “I don’t want a nice gir! I want a dirty girl!” EVER!
