I have been interested to watch the boys mature and see when that phase of self-awareness kicks in that triggers modesty.

For the most part it hasn’t. They are more than willing to walk around the house in various stages of undress.
Running free...
I always figured I would take my cue from them. When it started bothering them then I would be more aware of what I was doing. I mean I am their mom and although it is my duty to embarrass them, I will do it
consciously.
I just didn’t expect the cue to come from my three year old.
The other morning I was in my bedroom/bathroom/closet getting dressed after a shower. He walked in and sat down. He was
chattering away.
Laughing.
Being silly.
Telling stories.
I got dressed and brushed my hair and just before I was leaving to go make breakfast he said…
Mom you look so much better.
So much better clothed?
Ouch.
So now
no one is allowed in my bathroom when I am getting dressed.
Not for modesty, but for ego preservation.
🙂 Love me some Rhett!
I am so glad you stopped by. Looks like your site is one I haven’t visited nearly enough. I LOVE this story. I’m thinking my kids have given me so cues that I haven’t taken. crap. 🙂
I get this. Sigh.
Don’t ask this kid “Do these jeans make me look fat?” He’ll say “It’s not the jeans”.
My youngest stated how mushy my belly was. It’s funny how he didn’t mean it as an insult.
My 10 year old walked in the bathroom the other day when I was in the shower. It didn’t make me feel very good that he shrieked and ran out screaming about being blind from now on. Sigh.
He’s going to be a tough one! He’ll be lucky if you don’t hold that against him the rest of his life!
I have sooo been there. I am working on teaching my three-year-old to lie right now.
Ouch for the honesty. I feel your pain.
Which is why it IS our duty to embarrass them….
