All during Illness watch 2008 here at the Nirvana Reid complained that we hadn’t been to the library “forever…”. So not wanting to deprive the child, yesterday we took our first trip out of the house in 8 days and stopped by our local branch. The boys quickly made their way to the ONLY SHELF IN THE WHOLE LIBRARY that has books they like and they made their selections. Yes dear reader, the library has tens of thousands of books, our home has hundreds of books but we load up the minivan, drive to the library to check out one of these 15 books over and over and over again. This is the children’s non-fiction construction section. We have checked out each of these books multiple times. I have even paid for one of these books (shhhhh…yes, even after I tore up the house in an exhaustive search I still had to do the walk of shame to the library desk). Let’s do a little mommy math…the gas for multiple trips to the library + the time it takes to drive to the library + replacement cost of library books = maybe I would be better off searching Amazon.com for these 15 books and making a permanent purchase.

  1. I understand. My daughter keeps renting the same DVD over and over from the video store. I KNOW it would make sense just to buy the thing, but it would lose it’s magic, ya know?

  2. How fun! We just literally walked in the house from our Thursday afternoon trip to the library. We too overflowth with books at home, but you can never have enough. And then there are the movies/DVDs that you can check out. We are currently obsessed with Volcanoes at our house….

Very cute pics of the boys!

  3. Library? I’m ashamed to say Dylan has NEVER been to a library. I can’t keep track of the crap that’s mine, let alone something on LOAN that I’d have to return. Simply. Wouldn’t. Work.

  4. The library is a great place..It ends up being much much cheaper in the long run..

cheers Kim and I am sorry to say that I had lost your blog for a bit.. ooops My grand daughter pressed delete when I was organizing my rss thingy.. Luckily you commented on my wordless wednesday and I found you again.. *phew* 🙂

  5. I find the library too dang stressful. Trying to keep Peyton quiet in there is a nightmare. Do, we own like 9,000 books.

Who needs a college fund anyway?

  6. I remember when my O was construction vehicle obsessed. I think we probably owned each of those books at one time or another and now that he’s outgrown them, we’ve donated them to the library. It’s the circle of life – picture book style.
