when i was right

What was your most meaningful moment in the last year? Oh lordy, that is a question with a lot of pressure. Life is packed with little bits of this and that which all have potential in the meaningful category.   Sometimes it is only time that brings their importance to light. I have to start somewhere…My mind rolls through 2011 pausing on happy days, holiday celebrations and my kids’ milestones.

• In the spring, my family on the beach in St. Thomas with nothing on our agenda except play.
• The summer day that Rhett(5) learned to ride his bike.
• The Thursday morning dates that my dad has with Ryan(10) to go golfing and seeing them return with milkshakes and smiles.
• A silly story that Reid(8) told me that had us both giggling for an hour.
• The first day of school in the fall was the first day that all three boys went to school.
• Later that day realizing that all my kids were at school!
• Sitting in the Ballpark at Arlington for Ranger’s post-season with my husband cheering.
• The winter week of skiing. The first year that all of us were skiing together on the big hill.

I could go on. Really. My mommy brain resembles a Hallmark commercial resulting in a quick sniffle and a rapid tear wipe. But when I think of one moment that really stands out as memorable, it is a moment of a different type. A moment that was 10 years in the making. It was the moment that I heard…Mom, you are right. I don’t remember what {likely heated} discussion lead to the statement or the date on the calendar when it happened, but looking down into Ryan’s face and hearing those words for the first time will never be forgotten.
