Time is ticking away and the bakery requires at least a 24 hour lead time for any made to order cake. You have the party planned perfectly but, in the midst of all of your preparations a cake was never picked up! The celebration is inching closer by the second.
Or… Another dilemma possibility… You are wanting to be more creative and are looking for a different cake option, aside from the standard sheet cake, but you’re short on time and the budget can’t take the hit of an extravagant custom ordered masterpiece of a cake!
Here’s a solution: Why not make you’re own masterpiece? A fun, fast, easy and inexpensive solution is to make a doughnut cake. Not only is it sure to be a hit with the kids but I guarantee adults will love it as well. Who doesn’t love a doughnut whether they want to or not? They beckon to little ones and parents with a sugary vengeance and make for a delicious treat any day of the week.

The actually assembly is simple! Pick up a baker’s dozen of doughnuts, either all of the same type of doughnut or a variety and stack them on a pie stand or platter. Voila you have a cake!
To take it a step further, why not make a custom cake topper! You will need two wooden skewers, some twine and washi tape. The skewers become your anchors, string the twin between them at your desired length and then begin taking pieces of wash tape, fold them over the twine and trim the bottoms to form the look of a mini flag.
Ta Da, you have a fantastic hand made cake topper! Sit back and stare at you’re lovely doughnut cake and washi tape banner happily, because it is about to be totally demolished because it is that fantastic and delicious!

This is genius!! Did I say genius?! Not everyone has the skills to be able to bake a fancy birthday cake or have the money to spend on having one made for them…but doughnuts? That is easy and everyone loves doughnuts!! The little cake topper just finishes it off perfectly. Love this idea 🙂
