Let’s read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and then make our own coconut tree!
In the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, the letters of the alphabet race to the top of the coconut tree. Use our instructions to make your own.
Our kids at school love the book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. After reading it this week, we gathered supplies for them to make their own coconut tree.
This is a fun fine motor activity for kids because it involves cutting, tearing, gluing, and tracing around the paper roll. You could also have the kids pick out the letters for their names to race up the coconut tree.

- Foam letter stickers
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Pencil
Instructions for making a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree
Step 1
Stand the paper roll on your red construction paper. Trace around it with the pencil a few times to make the coconuts for your tree. Cut them out and set them aside for now.
Step 2
Using green construction paper, cut out leaves for your coconut tree. As you can see from the image above, our leaves almost look like a hand with three fingers on it. These don’t need to be the same, and you can draw them on the construction paper before cutting them out.
Step 3
Cut or tear tissue paper to make extra leaves for your tree.
Step 4
Glue the tissue paper and construction paper leaves onto one end of the paper roll. We started with the construction paper leaves, and then added the tissue paper leaves.
Once your leaves are glued into place you can add the coconuts to your leaves, and then the foam letters racing up the tree.
