Kick off summer with the Chestnut Square Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Festival Featuring the 16th annual Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-off presented by Chestnut Square Historic Village. Cranker registration starts at 9:00, cranking starts at 10:00 a.m. Ice Cream and lots of fun activities are available from 10:00 until 2:00. Tasting of crankers’ entrys and people’s choice voting is from 12:00 – 1:30. Winners announced at 1:45. She Is Dallas info: The 16th annual Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-Off will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2011 in front of the Dulaney House at Chestnut Square. Â The event is open to the public and free to attend. Â Visitors are urged to park in one of the many downtown parking lots and stroll over to Chestnut Square at 315 S. Chestnut St. in McKinney. To participate in the competition: Â Pre-registration is requested, but not required. Â Contestants should arrive by 9:00 a.m. with an ice cream freezer and pre-mixed ingredients for registration. Contestants should plan to make two (2) gallons of their flavor entry for judging and tasting. Salt, ice and power will be furnished.
Homemade ice cream will be available from 10:00 until 2:00 for sale. Cranker ice cream tasting will begin at 12:00 p.m. for those who buy $10/adult and $5/kids 3-12 tasting tickets. Those who purchase a $10 tasting ticket will also vote for the People’s Choice Award.
All proceeds from the sampling will benefit the McKinney Education Foundation in memory of Leslie Geer and the Clyde and Doc’s Ice Cream Freezer Museum at Chestnut Square.
