When I think of zebras I remember a road trip my youngest daughter and I were on, driving the long way across the width of Texas. One of the car game we played was ‘collecting’ different animals that we spied along the way – along with the usual farm and ranch animals we had already seen several kinds of deer and even some bison! As we came over a rise we saw a huge oak tree shading an animal in a pasture. “A horse!” I said at the same time my daughter said “Donkey!” We went back in forth and then our jaws dropped when we were close enough to see that it was a real live zebra! Needless to say the zebra won for the most interesting – and surprising – animal we spotted.
