One of my all time favorite TV episodes was the Baggage episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. It portrays the pinnacle of a couple’s passive-aggressive fighting with perfection.
They share a suitcase on a weekend trip. When they return it gets placed on the stair landing. Where it sits for days, and then weeks. Clothes that were packed inside the suitcase they start wearing. But no one moves the suitcase.
What does it say about me that I am playing this passive-aggressive game with myself?
I brought home my suitcase. I placed it in the masterbath. Where it has sat for days…6 days…almost a week. Clothes that were packed inside the suitcase I have started wearing. But no one moves the suitcase.
Blog-Stedman is unpacked. The boys are unpacked. The rest of the house has attained Nirvana-neutral status. Yet my suitcase remains… In the end of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode, Raymond is leaving for a weekend trip and does this: Can anyone lend me some stinky cheese?

  1. I LOVE THAT EPISODE! It SO speaks to me and my husbands relationship. I will TRY my hardest to ignore something just to see if he will do it… but inevitably he waits me out and I do it just so I don’t have to look at it anymore.

come to find out he REALLY could car less and was not playing the game… it was me… against… ME. Errrr

  2. A patient told me that when he and his wife divorced, his wife made a big fuss about keeping the expensive custom drapes in their (now her)home. On the day he moved out she wasn’t there. He took down the drapery rods, stuffed them with shrimp and left.

  3. This is also one of my favorite episodes of Raymond. Probably my favorite since it is the first one I remember when I think about the show.
