What Can We Learn From Modern Day Princesses ~ #RedboxSummerFamilyFun!

When I asked my daughter, Sienna (or should I say Princess Jasmine) who her favorite princess was she said Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Merida, Tiana, Belle, Ariel and so on ¦.   Sienna loves all of the princesses and if you asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would probably say a princess! At age 5, Sienna is inspired by the many things these young women teach her.   Merida taught her how to ride a horse, Jasmine, how to ride a carpet, Rapunzel, how to make a candle and Ariel, how to swim.   So each princess is valuable in her own way! But I really wanted to find out what she thought about the relationship between Merida and her mother.   We recently saw Brave in the movie theater so I knew it was fresh in her mind.   Sienna understood it was wrong when Merida was mean to her mom and cast an evil spell.   She said Merida should be nicer to her mommy. I think the story of Brave does have an important message.   It's ok to want to do things your way or carve your own path in life.   But you still must maintain your integrity and respect those who have different opinions.   It's ok for my daughter to want to be independent and pursue her dreams.   But it's also important to conduct yourself in a manner respectful of others. Many other princesses like Kiara, Tiana and Belle inspire girls to be strong and independent.   But they also do it with dignity and integrity.   That is what I hope inspires my daughter.
