I graduated in 1988 which means I am supposed to go to a 20 year reunion in a few weeks. I pulled out a few yearbooks this week to find…
The year is 1984.
80s Holly is living with her family in the mid-west.
Why did I sign my own yearbook?
As you can see, 80s Holly had a lot of hair. She took her hair styling seriously and could be found to occupy the bathroom for hours.
What is with the disturbed expression on my face?
80s Holly would spread out her necessary equipment.
First she would wash her hair daily with Suave.
Then she would apply thick foamy mousse for additional body.
She would blow dry her hair while carefully feathering with a round brush.
A curling iron would then further fluff where the blow dryer failed.
A little spritz of Suave hairspray.
Upside down blow drying for just a sec. (shhhh…that is the secret ingredient).
And then a final full spray of aqua net.
Why did I cut my hair?
80s hair in the 1980s was very serious business.
Fluffy was a must.
Whew…it grew out a bit.
It was all for looks.
God forbid someone try to run fingers through hair…
ARGGGGGGHHHHHHH!
That would cause serious scalp injury.
Class officer picture. I was Sargent at Arms…why?
I have an explanation for my hair.
Now can someone please explain my plaid pilgrim dress with the bow on the round collar?
*shudder*
Personally, my favorite is the puffy, two-toned, collarless coat. Those 80’s coats RAWKED!
Signed,
Another 80’s Child
Love all the pictures and the pilgrim dress? No explanations except it was the ’80’s and I guess you thought that was cool?
Forget the hair. I totally would have wanted that awesome coat in the second picture. That is like SO RAD!
Aah, feathered hair. I was fortunate enough to have a feathered “fem-mullet” with wings before going with the poodle perm/feathered on top look.
I am so very grateful that I was 8 in 1984 and thereby too young for the craptacular hair. Who thought all that hair spray was a good idea anyway? *shudder*
ok…I tried to post twice now….did MY comment land in your fruit bowl???
I am suspecting that either:
1. You were a huge Laura Ingels Wilder fan
or
2. Your Ma finished sewing that dress for you the night before…she made it special for the big picture!
I do have to ask…were you wearing pantaloons also?
I died my hair blue and shaved on side of it in the 80’s. And yet It still took a long time to do each day
At least you weren’t a blue power ranger!
and we all thought we were so COOL then. we did, i remember.
it scares me, it really does…
Oh the hair ‘process’….and mousse! I remember it all too well. I think I am most surprise by how serious you look in some of the photos!
But the plaid pilgrim dress…now I think you should wear that to the reunion.
