Several years ago, my homeschool buddies turned me on to Reading Eggs. Â It is a website that has games and learning experiences related to phonics and reading for ages 3-7. Â I was a little concerned because at that time none of my boys had ever used the computer for a game. Â They had solely used our Wii or their DS’s. Â I was afraid that they would need a lot of help learning to navigate a mouse to negotiate the reading activities.
I was wrong.
Reading Eggs is super simple. Â I sat with each of them for a few minutes at the beginning and then they shooed me away…the nerve!
The program is fun for the kids and behind-the-scenes it records the progress of the child for the parent to view. Â After each 10 lessons, there is a quiz which is reported to the adult. Â The kids can re-take the lessons as often as they desire.
At the end of each lesson, there is a virtual book to read. Â These books are also available in paperback if you would like to reinforce the reading outside of the virtual world.
My recommendation is for ages 4-6. Â A computer savvy 3 year old will be fine.
The cool thing is that Juice in the City is running a deal TODAY for 50% the regular 1 year subscription rate. Â If you hurry, you can get a full year for $32.I was really excited to see a deal today for a 1 year subscription at Reading Eggs for 50% off.
It is because I am always looking for games my boys can play that sneak in some learning. Â It is a bonus if that can be done with little to no assistance from me!
