A few days ago my gums started hurting. Really hurting…like stop eating hurting.

It came on pretty suddenly in the evening and by the time I went to bed I was in quite a bit of pain. To keep my mind off the pain I watched Law & Order reruns. The last episode that I watched was about a woman who fell sick quickly and within hours had disfiguring bumps all over her body which caused her death within a day. Dioxin poisoning.
It turned out to be the ex-girlfriend of her dentist husband who got the idea because the dentist had murdered her sister 10 years earlier in this way.
By morning I was pretty sure I had been poisoned. Except no one has any motive to kill me. Oh, and dioxin isn’t the easiest thing to get your hands on. Oh, and I wasn’t coverd with dioxin hives. Oh, and I actually woke up. I had blog-Stedman take a look at my mouth and he Googled a few things and diagnosed me with gingivitis. Really? Calling my pain gingivitis doesn’t have the dramatic flair that dioxin poisoning carries. And I brush regularly. The pain increased and I called my dentist. He saw me yesterday and put some fancy dentist stuff on my gums. I have some gum inflammation which pretty much means I have gingivitis and the lamest Law & Order episode in the making…

  1. I love your site, Law&Order, that cute pict ~ and you don’t have gingivits. trust me. 😛

    Have a splendid week-end! ?

    Dy,

  2. Isn’t dioxin one of the chemicals released into the air from bleach? Take heart! You may still have a mystery on your hands! Maybe dioxin causes gingivitis! (Just remember, when you accept the award for that discovery, where you heard it first 😉 ).

  3. So you just had me spending the last 15 minutes surfing the web for the dangers of gingivitis…

    Yeah, sorry I got nothing.

No law and order episode that I see 🙁

  4. I had that once, and the hygienist at the dentist’s office tried to shame me into flossing more often. I don’t respond well to shame. However, apparently my gums do. I have learned that if I floss at least a few times per month (the nights I can stay awake long enough to remember), and then every darn day if my gums start to hurt until they don’t any more, I can keep both the gingivitis and the irritatingly condescending tone from the hygienist at bay.

  5. Maybe I should watch Law and Order tonight…

  6. I wonder if thats what I have. I brush regularly too but sometimes when I eat bagels or chewy stuff my “teeth”? hurt when I bite down but then the pain is gone. But it REALLY hurts to bite down sometimes. But, again, stop eating, stop pain. For the most part. Sometimes it aches w/out eating.

My dental appointment is in September.

  7. maybe your dentist and blog Stedman are in it together & using something other than dioxin on you.
