Do you remember the guy in college that would eat ANYTHING for a laugh? Well, I have pinpointed the exact age at which he stopped maturing: 2 years, 3 months & 15 days. How can make that call with such amazing precision? Let’s buy a ticket for the dinner theater at my house. Rhett (2yrs., 3 months & 15 days old) is now playing the crowd for laughs at dinner. Last night he turned a spaghetti dinner into the world’s most immature stand-up comedy routine. He started with a crowd pleasing bodily noises review. He went on to delight with extra food mess reminiscent of Gallagher. But what had the room rolling on the floor with laughter was the very deliberate dipping of his meatballs in orange juice and V8 Fusion (blueberry/pomegranate). He would pick up the meat, wave it wildly in the air, dip it in the chosen drink while yelling, “DIP!” and then pop it into his mouth. After each meatball received his little comedy routine, he would look up and scream, “MOMMY, MORE MEATBALLS PLEASE!” This went on for 15 minutes with a total of 6 meatballs participating in his act. His brothers were laughing so hard they couldn’t eat. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t enforce proper table etiquette. Blog-Stedman walked in from work in the middle of Rhett’s routine and immediately got caught up in the hilarity. The boy is funny. Very funny. And all the laughing only egged him on. I feel good about him honing his comedy skills at such an early age. Hopefully all the practice will take his routine to an elevated level. A level that someday will land us all in the Principal’s office discussing Rhett and his role as class clown…

  1. I am cracking up!! but, I will offer one piece of advice for the family of a budding comedian – NO GRAPE DRINK at dinner time. It just isn’t worth the mess you have to clean up!

  2. If all it took was some bodily noises, applause, yogurt and bad table manners to get Gavin to eat, I would be all for it. Unfortunately, it takes an act of God.

    KEEP BELIEVING

  3. That is SO funny! i love how kids come up with the craziest stuff!

On a brighter not, it could be worse mine (6 yo) gets sent to the office for everything BUT being the class clown. THAT – I could probably deal with.

    😉

  4. *LOL* Hooray for being called to the principals office!! *G* Sounds like a hilarious dinner!! One that would have made my husband cringe 😉

  5. Lol! What is it with kids and dipping? Some won’t eat unless they dip, others will not eat if the food has touched anything else on their plate…

  6. I enjoy reading your blog! We have nightly dinner entertainment too, sometimes funny, sometimes gross, sometimes annoying. 🙂 (Love the name Rhett, btw.)

  7. I love (and envy) that y’all were able to laugh! Maybe if I made meatballs, mine could think of something funnier to do at the table than inflict third-degree sarcasm on each other.

Nah, they’d probably just launch the meatballs instead.

  8. Y’know, blueberry pomegranate meatballs don’t sound all that bad. Maybe we should have them for dinner, too.
