Earlier in the week, it was made known that Hershey’s discussed that there would be a candy shortage for Halloween.
It was during the Hershey’s second-quarter earnings call when CEO Michele Buck told investors that although they started making seasonal candy in the Spring, they were putting more effort into making day-to-day candy instead.
“We had a strategy of prioritizing everyday on-shelf availability,” Buck said. “It was a tough decision to balance that with the seasons, but we thought that was really important. And so that was a choice that we needed to make. We had opportunity to deliver more Halloween [candy], but we weren’t able to supply that.
She continued:
“Seasonal consumer engagement is expected to remain high, and we expect high single digit sales growth for both our Halloween and holiday seasons,” Buck also said. “Despite this strong growth, we will not be able to fully meet consumer demand due to capacity constraints.”
As you can imagine, people began to panic. After all, you don’t mess with one of the best things to come out of the best holiday.
With that being said, Hershey’s has made a statement saying there will be enough candy for Halloween and I am so glad!
In a response to the panic, a Hershey spokesperson told FOX TV Stations on Friday:
“We actually have even more seasonal product available to the consumer this year than last year,”
I don’t particularly remember there NOT being enough Halloween candy last year but as long as they have more than last, I think that’s a good sign, don’t you?
Nonetheless, it may be a good idea to buy your Halloween candy earlier than ever this year and ya know, just don’t eat it all before Halloween comes! Ha!
Or else, we may all just be stuck with candy corn… YUCK!
