This could alternately be titled: “Baby learns to paint”. Even with our no-spill shaving cream paint recipe painting is a messy activity. Coloring with markers, while the kids color plenty on themselves and even the table, it easily wipes off and is less destructive. So markers are an early “art” activity over here. But painting is still a ton of fun! Why don’t we combine them! Our younger preschooler had fun scribbling on a page and then painting over it with water. It was fun to watch the colors bleed and fade into each other as my daughter explored.

Great idea. We’ve used a spray bottle with markers before but I never thought to use a paintbrush with water…probably a similar effect but your idea lets them try out a different tool of using a paintbrush. love it.
Fun!! We use contractor’s paper on the tables for messy projects and kid’s vinyl “theme” placemats for smaller projects like watercolor or playdough.

This is so ingenious! There are times I just dont want the mess of finger paints or markers, and this is the perfect way to encourage creativity and keep the kitchen neat! LOL.
My children loved to use markers when they were younger and they still do.
I bought Window Writer window paint and let my children draw on the sliding glass door. The paint is washable and very easy to get off. My children made such beautiful art work one summer that I left it there for months so we could all enjoy.
They also loved bringing it in to the bathtub and writing on the tile. The teacher in my used to put math problems on the bath tiles for them to do. The markers come in lots of fun colors too.
This looks like fun. We have tried the water color paint “coloring” books, but not marker painting.
I’ve heard that you can also use dried up markers dipped in water to “paint” with.

We love painting with water on colored construction paper. The paper turns a darker shade, and when we are all done the paper dries out and we can use it over and over again. It is a perfect activity for when I’m trying to get dinner made…and NO mess!, well unless the water is spilled, but I only give them a tablespoon or so…so it isn’t a problem.
