I grew up in the dark ages.
Well, it wasn’t exactly
dark…we had electricity, but we didn’t have a VCR.
*gasp*
You might guess how old I am when I say that I remember when VCR’s were invented…
or at least available to the general public.
That was back in the days of just having a few TV channels, but if your show was on at 7 pm, you better be at the TV because there was no such thing as
pause.
We had to rely on what was shown. Thankfully, one movie seemed to be on a regular rotation…
The Sound of Music
I can’t help singing in my head just typing that…
the hills are alive with the sound of music.
My mom and I would curl up in my parent’s bed and watch it from beginning to end.
In fact, it is the only thing on TV that I recall my mom watching.
By the time I went to high school, we had figured that we had watched The Sound of Music 27 1/2 times.
A magical thing happened in high school. ย For my birthday my freshman year, my dad rented a VCR and several video tapes and hauled it home.
I had a movie-themed birthday party the first evening which was followed by those three movies on demand in our very own home for the next glorious 2 days.
I don’t remember what the other movies were, but the one that I watched non-stop was
Lady Hawk. ย Fantastic. ย I haven’t a clue how many times I watched it over and over, but I can recall specific scenes from the movie 27 years later.
It is funny to think how easily accessible movies are these days. ย It blows my mind to think that my children don’t even know a time when you couldn’t pause live TV.
