Why don’t you and your kids try making a homemade version of your own? This is a frugal summer treat, great for holidays like July 4th or another summer outing. Your children will love creating and eating their ice cream!

Ingredients to make your homemade Ice Cream

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 1 bag of ice
  • 1/2 cup coarse salt
  • pint-sized Ziploc bags
  • gallon-sized Ziploc bags

What to do to make a homemade ice cream

Step 1

Combine the first 4 ingredients in a bowl.

Step 2

Add ½ a cup of the mixture to a pint-sized bag.

Step 3

Take a gallon-sized bag and fill it with ice and ½ cup of salt.

Step 4

Place the pint-sized bag inside the gallon bag.

Step 5

Wrap the bag in a towel, and hand it over to the little ones. Have the kids shake the bag continuously for at least 5 minutes. The result will be their own handmade, rich, and creamy vanilla ice cream!
