Cooking with kids: Inspirational Cookbooks

family whole foods cookbookI like cookbooks that inspire me, I have a few trusted ones that I go to repeatedly, including one that a close family friend made me when I got married.   It is perfect, a collection of all her favorite recipes, that she compiled for me knowing I was new to the kitchen.   I love that cookbook and go to it for many of my regular recipes, but often I want to venture off the path of comfortable.   Here are three cookbooks that I have recently used.   These cookbooks have inspired me to be and do more for my family in the kitchen

Earthbound Cook, by Myra Goodman

This book is full of whole food recipes for families.   I love how it inspires me to use more vegetables and educates me on how to create full-protiens out of not-meat sources.     Unfortunately, my kids like comfortable food (you know the recipe you make 2-3 times a month) so we haven’t made too many of the recipes.   When I think that we are in a repetitive dietary rut or that the kids aren’t eating the right balance of foods I browse through this cookbook for ideas.

.Gifts from Cooks

Gifts Cooks Love, by Diane Morgan

Can I say yummy!   This book is full of some brilliant gift ideas from your kitchen to others!   It has inspired me to make my very own vanilla extract – I only have to wait another month or two for the extract to age and me to test it before you get to read a post about our experiences.   I also have all the ingredients waiting for me to try making toasted coconut marshmallows – they sound absolutely scrumptious.   If you are a cook and a friend, get this book and make me something!

Cookie Swap, by Lauren Chattmancookie cookbook for preschoolers

This book doens’t really inspire me… but boy you should have been here when the kids unwrapped the package.   Their eyes were saucers!   They have been drooling over the more than 70 different cookie recipes, not including variations of each recipe.   There are probably 200 different cookies in here, if not more!     I definitely see some cookie making in my future.

What cookbooks have inspired you?   Tell me about them.

Many thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Media Masters for sending me copies of these cookbooks.

  1. In April, my first book comes out! It’s called The Whole Family Cookbook and is written to inspire families to cook together. While I own a cooking school for kids, I come from an education background, so the book includes lots of eco tips for families so that they can learn to lessen their environmental footprint while they make healthy food choices.

  2. I love cookbooks too, especially ones that have great pictures to go along with the recipes. My favorite cookbook is called Vegetarian and I Googled it, but can’t find it. It’s an old soft cover with lots of great colorful pictures that I use often.

  3. I love the idea of a “gifts cookbook”. I think that’s a great idea to give something home-made from the heart as gifts for friends and family. Here’s one I discovered recently that I thought was great: Boys Can Cook Too!: An Inspirational Cookbook for Sports Lovin’ Boys of all Ages. My dad taught my brother and me it was okay for guys to cook… and now my brother is practically a gourmet chef in his spare time. I’m dropping by from Mom Loop Friday Comment Follow, btw. I write the blog about life and parenthood from the dad’s perspective. Today’s blog is called “Stop and Smell the Diapers… aka: Six ways to be a Better Dad”. Please drop by if you get the chance. I have a Facebook page, too, if you use it. Have a great weekend!

  4. An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing just a little evaluation on this. And he the truth is bought me breakfast as a result of I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the deal with! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this, I feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If potential, as you turn out to be experience, would you thoughts updating your blog with extra particulars? It’s highly useful for me. Large thumb up for this weblog put up!

  5. I really like what you guys are usually up too. Such clever work and reporting! Keep up the wonderful works guys I’ve added you guys to my own blogroll.
