We have a set of triplets who just love to build – at any moment you can find literally dozens of blocks littering our floor. This year, for Christmas, the kids helped create their own present.
Sweet memories!
Together time comes in moments like these, when we are building events, building memories, building love.
Home wasn’t a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go. — Sarah Dessen
Make Colorful Wooden Blocks
Supplies needed:
- Scrap wood cut into blocks and small rectangles.
- Sand paper
- Variety of colors of acrylic paint.
- Spray sealant
Sand the scraps of wood so that there are no rough edges – we sanded once with coarse grained sand paper and a second time with fine. They were smooth!
Collect your paint and brushes and decorate your blocks to your hearts content. We are learning about patterns and complementary colors – each of us decorated our own block. It is beautiful how they come together as a unit, a set, just like we do as a family. Lots of different parts, building and investing in each other to create something pretty cool!
This block-building activity was inspired by a wood quilt that I saw on Pinterest, originally created by
Giddy, Giddy. But our finished product was too pretty to keep on the wall. Our blocks are like our house, meant to be used and enjoyed.
The perfect gift.
Hopefully, I won’t stub my foot on them in the night.
