Not really in the I want to go naked way, but more in the I have worn this pair of pants and shirt for a year now and I like the way it feels don’t make me change it way.
It is similar to the hair cutting battle I regularly wage after it has been 2 months since their last haircut and THEY protest any sort of hair length change.
I am USED to it this way!
We JUST got our haircut!
Don’t make me change my hair!
The last week has been a war with Reid(7) over pants.
The first day he came down wearing Ryan(10)’s pants. Ryan’s pants are a full two sizes larger. Reid looked like he was wearing his dad’s pants.
Don’t make me change!
I can’t find ANY of MY pants!
These are FINE!
The next day he came down wearing Rhett(5)’s pants. Rhett’s pants are a full two sizes smaller. Reid looked like he was wearing capris.
Don’t make me change!
I can’t find ANY of MY pants!
These are FINE!
I marched him upstairs to investigate the Reid Pant Shortage of 2011. What I found was a full bin of uniform pants appropriately sized, labeled with his name at his eye level.
Although there was a full bin of uniform pants appropriately sized, labeled with his name at his eye level, I did notice that he was lacking in non-school attire.
So this weekend I loaded up the car and took three boys to Old Navy.
I only admitted where we were going to Rhett.
Shhhh…don’t tell your brothers we are going clothes shopping. It is better if they do not know.
I won’t tell them if you let me pick out my own clothes.
Done.
We drove into the Old Navy parking lot and Ryan and Reid were horrified. Rhett sat between them in the backseat with a big grin. A grin of the satisfaction of brotherly secrecy magnified by the excitement of impending shopping.
Ryan: We don’t need clothes!
Reid: Ya, we don’t need clothes! I am not going in!
Rhett: How many shirts can I pick out?
I took a look at the situation. Old Navy receives biannual visits from this crowd. I need them in the store TODAY and won’t need to worry about it again for 6 months so I did what any mother with over 10 years of mothering experience would do…I bribed them.
See that Red Robin next door? If you will hang with me and answer my questions in Old Navy for 20 minutes, I will take you there where they serve MILKSHAKES.
Genius.
The next 20 minutes went like this:
Yes Rhett, you can get the banana t-shirt.
Ryan, will you wear this? This? This? This? This? This? This?
Yes Rhett, you can get the flag shirt in BOTH red and gray.
Reid, will you wear this? This? This? This? This? This? This?
No Rhett, 3 flag shirts is too many. You already have picked out two.
Ryan, will you wear this? This? This? This? This? This? This?
Yes Rhett, you can have shorts that match Ryan’s.
Reid, will you wear this? This? This? This? This? This? This?
OK Rhett, I think you have picked out P.L.E.N.T.Y.
20 minutes and 31 pieces of boy clothing sized 6 – 12 later we were Red Robin bound.
The next morning all three boys arrived downstairs before breakfast clothed.
Ryan in old clothes.
Reid in old clothes.
Rhett in new clothes complaining that he really, really, really wanted the third flag shirt.
Can we go back to Old Navy today and get the white flag shirt?
My older boys are anti-clothing.
Welcome to Kids Activities!
My name is Holly Homer & I am the Dallas mom of three boys…
My son Tristan’s favorite year of clothes shopping was the year I could buy all of his shirts by trying them on myself. He didn’t even have to come. He was twelve. He grew. It was a blissful year for both of us while it lasted.
LOL I guess because my only son is four, he hasn’t hit that stage yet. He loves shopping more than his big sis!
LOL! Oh, my goodness! That sounds like my four brothers!
LOL! My boys have yet to have an opinion on the buying or wearing of clothes. Every so often I remove stuff that doesn’t fit from their rooms & replace it with new stuff that does fit. Sometimes one of them says “hey! this is new!’ but other than that, nothing is ever said
just wait.. ryan just hasnt hit it yet.. in fact i bet reid hits it before ryan .The I cant wear that I wore that last year..Yes but I bought it too big last year so it would fit this year.. but now its not in style anymore.. Can we please get Tony hawk.. Can I goot Zumiez.. Blah blah blah.. dude your 10!!! not 15!! deal!
Oh, I think this is a boy thing! My son is EXACTLY the same way! Even when he gets new clothes, they stay in his closet while he continues to wear the same old things. I guess I have to start to REMOVE the old so he doesn’t have a choice. Clothes and hair are just not on his radar right now. I suppose when girls enter the picture at some point, then maybe he will take more of an interest. For now, he could care less what he’s wearing and whether his hair is all sticking up and messy! This cracked me up!
Yes, that is a very different experience from shopping with girls. One of my girl’s was BEGGING me to buy her a $59 Coach wallet on this weekend’s shopping trip. It was originally $200 so it was on SALE! At least I taught her to look for things on sale, but she still didn’t get the wallet 🙂
Too funny!!! Almost sounds like the shopping trip I had last weekend, except substitute my husband for you and me for your boys. I hate to shop. Lol.
Oh, I’m dreading that shopping trip! You must HIDE all old clothes now.
