Do you live in the DFW area or plan to visit here  soon? This past  weekend we found an  awesome hidden family-fun treasure located in the rural  town of Glen Rose. Have you heard of Dinosaur  World? Let me share with you a peak inside our visit. This neat little park is tucked away in Glen Rose, an  itty bitty town with  a population of 2122, which is about  50 miles south of downtown Fort Worth. Did I mention the town  even has a  Dairy Queen? Grab a Blizzard on your way through- yum. (Oreo is my favorite.)

The day we decided to go to Dinosaur World, it was on a whim. I think I confused my five year old twins in the process of our decision making. We were pondering either a trip to Grapevine to ride the train, or the trip to Dinosaur World.   As you can imagine, as soon as we arrived they could not wait to ride the Dinosaur Train just like the one they watch in the cartoon  each afternoon on  PBS!   That was a long discussion. The  entrance to Dinosaur World is ever so enchanting- here is just a glimpse! dinosaur world entrance We   quickly purchased our tickets inside which gave us unlimited access to walk the dinosaur trails, tour the museum and play on the playground. boy digging in sand box   Our first stop was the Fossil Dig, of course, which starts at the top of the hour, every hour. There are over 10 types of authentic fossils stocked in the Fossil Dig for kids to find. Some of the fossils hidden in the sand include shark teeth, sea urchins, dinosaur bone fragments, gastropods, ammonites, trilobites, and more.

Children ages 3-12 can use various tools to sift through sand in search of fossils.

Children can even keep up to three fossils that they find as a souvenir of their visit.

After the trails we stopped at the playground, equipped with picnic tables, catch my drift? You could totally pack a lunch. mom with two boys at dinosaur world Overall, I really enjoyed our trip to Dinosaur World. It was a nice get-away without having to go too far. 2 boys and trex dinosaur   If you have little ones, make sure you take your stroller in with you. The trails can be a bit long and by the end small feet  are getting tired. But, the trails end right where the playground begins, and new energy is discovered. 🙂 My husband’s only request was dino-themed music along the trails (he is totally ADD) and he thought hanging misters would be great for a hot summer day.           Don’t forget to check out the museum (free with your admission) and gift shop as well. They even have a private section for birthday parties…. wouldn’t that be cool!?

This would make a super fun school/home-school field trip as well!
