It takes more than just a camera to create a good portrait. Other than our wedding, we have always used run-of-the-mill photography studios. I was so tired of the canned poses and wanted to capture our family’s personality and spirit. This spring, I came across Jen at Wildhair Photography via MyTown Perks. She was running a promotion and since I needed a North Dallas photographer, I decided to take a chance.
Jen is amazing. She is so personable and put us at ease right off the bat. She uses her 15 years experience in disaster preparedness and response to access the situation, come up with an action plan and stay calm. It doesn’t matter if she is shooting a wedding with hundreds of people, or a family of three, she is cool as a cucumber!
We met at a park right before dusk and the lighting was just perfect. We started at a creek with large flat rocks perfect for sitting (my son can’t wait to go back and explore!).
We sat in a meadow, on a park bench and on cool foot bridge. She just started talking to us and snapping as we talked. She would put us together in groups and then snap and talk, snap and talk. I wouldn’t be surprised if she took 500 pictures! She didn’t tell us how to stand or when to smile. But I tell you what, when I saw the best shots she put in the online album, I was blown away. She captured my son like no photographer! He is generally very shy when you first meet him and she had him grinning with his little personality on high.
Her work doesn’t stop with snapping the pictures. She is a master at photo editing and was able to remove flaws, add sparkle, change to black and white, etc.

Great photo of your son and family. I love it when photographers are personable, and the photos don’t seem overly posed, or edited. We will have to check her out, and maybe find out where that creek is located! Thanks!
