I bet you didn’t get online today wondering if today was the day you’d find out eating boogers is good for your kids but, here we are…

Yes,
experts do say that eating boogers is good for kids and I can’t help but gag.
I’d be lying if I said my kids didn’t eat their boogers because I think every single kid (including myself) has done it, at least once.
Picking your nose and “digging for gold” just seems to be fun to kids and some get curious and eat it too.

Something that I’ve caught myself yelling “STOP” to my kids on several occasions.
If you’ve always frowned upon this and have tried to discourage your child from doing it (like I have), you might want to rethink your strategy.
Scott Napper, a biochemistry professor at the University of Saskatchewan,
theorizes that snot and boogers taste sweet so kids will want to eat them. It’s the body’s way of enticing kids to consume boogers as a way to boost their immune system.

Do they really taste sweet?
The only way to know is if you try it yourself but before you do, you should know why boogers are good for your kids.
Scott Napper told the CBC that snot’s sugary taste may signal the body that it should be eaten, and the immune system may obtain information from its contents.
“By consuming those pathogens caught within the mucus, could that be a way to teach your immune system about what it’s surrounded with?”

An interesting thought indeed.
What makes it good then is the fact that pathogens are caught within the mucus and when a child eats their boogers, these pathogens are placed into the body. It’s a way for the body to learn how to strengthen its immunity.
Scott’s argument is that we evolved from a dirty environment and live such a sterile one now that it is actually damaging to our health.

So, the next time you want to yell STOP at your kid for eating their boogers, just think it actually may be good for their health.
Strange but it completely makes sense.
For all of us who DON’T read all the other blogs, thank you for this enlightening information! Regardless of where it came from it’s still relevant. In my research on boogers I have seen relatively the same things said, so get over it nay sayers.
I still eat my Boggers.
Always did, always will.
This post is nearly identical to a post on The Soccer Mom Blog- it’s clear that you stole her content. That is beyond disappointing and wrong. As a blogger, you know how hard we work to create good content. Do the right thing and don’t steal from your fellow bloggers. I personally have lost respect for Kids Activities Blog. 🙁
This is the exact article I read by Soccer Mom blog. Shame on you.
This sounds a lot like another article I just read….down to the same quotes.
I’m a little disappointed. I always thought Kids Activities was a blog to look up to.
So sad to see kids activities blog has stopped to stealing other bloggers’ viral topics – right down to the “experts” mention in the title.
What a horrible example to set for your kids.
