One of the things I love about being a blogger is the community. It is something I didn’t expect when I started blogging nearly a kajillion years ago, but it has turned out to be one of the best parts.
It is like getting a great big hug from the internet.
The cool thing is that the internet is NOT as big as it seems, in fact, three bloggers who inspire me live {or lived} within a few miles of me in the Dallas area.
What are the chances?
Dallas Bloggers Who Influence Me
It was
Shauna that I met first….
back when she WAS a blogger. Turns out she lives in the same town as me and we have three kids nearly the same age. Turns out she is super sweet and someone I feel completely lucky to call a friend. And despite my daily calls, she still answers the phone. She is an amazing
website designer. She is the reason why this site {and my others} feel like home to me. She has an uncanny ability to translate my thoughts and pencil drawings into something better than what was in my head:
- I want something black and white with color!
- It should be like that image that comes up on the TV at the end of the day!
- It can’t be too busy!
- It has to be something I love!
- Can you do it NOW?!?
Through some miracle, it happens. And if you have been a reader of June Cleaver Nirvana for awhile you know that it has looked this way for years…and I still love it.
Thank you Shauna!
When I met
Laurie, it just seemed like we had been friends for a long time.
Don’t you LOVE when that happens?
We traveled to several conferences together and were roommates. It is fun to be with Laurie at a conference because people KNOW her. Just watching and listening is an adventure. We lived just a few miles apart and got together when we could, but I am so happy that even though she moved away {sob}, we still see each other regularly and chat all the time.
My favorite thing about Laurie is shop talk. We could talk for hours about blogging and social media and not wear out. I really respect her opinion and treasure her advice.
As a side note: I scoured my digital photo files for a picture of Laurie and I together…no luck. I called her to see if she had one…no luck. SO, if you see us together, please take our picture!
Thanks Laurie!
I met Rachel last year. It was one of those things that was just SUPPOSED to happen.
Within weeks of meeting her, we were working together on her blog which has morphed into
Kids Activities Blog. I was ecstatic to become a Quirky Momma. A lot has happened since we started collaborating. Our site has grown {yay!} AND so has Rachel’s family {yay!}. She and her husband adopted two sweet babies from Ethiopia last winter. Their kids now number 6 which is inspiration in itself, but I also love the encouragement and advice Rachel gives so naturally…I
suspect she doesn’t even know how much others value her words.
Thanks Rachel!
Influencer Marketing
Another unexpected place I have found community is with BlogFrog. Not only am I a leader in three
blogger communities –
Mom Loop,
Tip Junkie and
Goodness Grove, but they are one of my largest sources of blogging income.
Get paid to blog?
I take almost every single opportunity of content marketing they present because they are organized and easy to work with, give me subjects that are a good fit and let me be creative with the post. In fact, working with BlogFrog has been more like receiving a writing prompt than a sponsored post. I look back and find that some of my BlogFrog posts are my favorites because I was given complete creative control on how I approached the given subject:
I could list on and on! The fun thing is that all these posts are SO DIFFERENT, but fit my blog well. They are stories I would have written anyway..
.if I had thought about it.
Which I didn’t.
Thanks BlogFrog!
