Well, it wasn’t exactly dark…we had electricity, but we didn’t have a VCR. *gasp* You might guess how old I am when I say that I remember when VCR’s were invented…or at least available to the general public. That was back in the days of just having a few TV channels, but if your show was on at 7 pm, you better be at the TV because there was no such thing as pause. We had to rely on what was shown. Thankfully, one movie seemed to be on a regular rotation… The Sound of Music I can’t help singing in my head just typing that…the hills are alive with the sound of music. My mom and I would curl up in my parent’s bed and watch it from beginning to end. In fact, it is the only thing on TV that I recall my mom watching. By the time I went to high school, we had figured that we had watched The Sound of Music 27 1/2 times. A magical thing happened in high school.   For my birthday my freshman year, my dad rented a VCR and several video tapes and hauled it home. I had a movie-themed birthday party the first evening which was followed by those three movies on demand in our very own home for the next glorious 2 days. I don’t remember what the other movies were, but the one that I watched non-stop was Lady Hawk.   Fantastic.   I haven’t a clue how many times I watched it over and over, but I can recall specific scenes from the movie 27 years later. It is funny to think how easily accessible movies are these days.   It blows my mind to think that my children don’t even know a time when you couldn’t pause live TV.
