Berry Serious!

If you haven't noticed, berries are a huge topic of discussion right now. I can hardly stop myself from buying vast quantities of every berry I see. You know why we should eat more berries: low in calories, loaded with vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants and phytonutrients. The fiber, which is upwards of 5 grams per 1/2 cup for some berries, helps fill us up and keeps blood sugars regulated. Berries have a high water content too, and are another source of fluid in our quest to stay hydrated during this abominable heat. And ¦.they are SWAAA-EET!

We created our version of a berry inspired American Flag for the Labor Day weekend that features the end of the summer berries, delicious cheese, more berries and more cheese!

This is so simple to recreate using any berry or fruit of your preference.  Our version of Old Glory consisted of rows of raspberries, blackberries and cubes of    50% reduced fat Cabot cheddar cheese.  Our portion-controlled white contribution adds calcium, protein and great flavor-you ™ll never know it's 50% reduced fat. Oh, it's lactose free too.  Blueberries were perfect stand-ins for our stars.

This is a great dish to prepare when trying to balance out the less than healthy items at a party. Your crowd will love this and you’ll likely have no leftovers.
