For the last few months Blog-Stedman and I have had a little obsession. It might even be an addiction. But since we both do it, we rationalize that it is OK. Enablers. When done well, it can cause an extreme high. Yes, we admit we are playing Words with Friends on our iPhones… Shhh….don’t tell Words with Friends that there is a really similar game called Scrabble except Scrabble doesn’t give 10 points for a “j”. We started out just playing a game over a few days.   Then play escalated.   Soon we were playing 2, 3 even 4 games at a time.   We found ourselves in the living room on opposite sides of the couch furiously playing each other.   Silently…with a little trash talking. One night we had a babysitter, went out to eat and played Words over gourmet pizza sitting across from each other in a booth. Onlookers were probably frightened for our relationship. We were staying even.   He would win a game.   I would win a game. Then HE started 8 games. 8 games? Yes, and I am here to report that 8 games can kill the joy. He took it too far.   Oh the pressure of never catching up. I lost the love of the game.   I lost all 8 games. I was talking to Shauna on the phone the other day and she mentioned that she and her husband had plans on Friday evening. I asked what they were going to do and she answered tentatively, “go to our favorite hangout in Dallas…and play Words“. Other people do that too? Awesome. Turns out that she and her husband have been playing against each other ever since she got her new phone. When my husband found out that Shauna was playing Words he invited her to play a game. *gasp* Isn’t that almost like cheating?   I mean, I am his WIFE. This sudden addition of competition has caused me to perk up my play…

  1. My husband and I do this ALL the time. It’s like we’re playing a board game and spending time together… except I can be in the bathtub!

    1. I can’t figure out if your starting play of “AT” is a brilliant scheme to mess with the board or just a move of desperation.

      I am off kilter.

  2. I love the game too, except I don’t have an iphone, just an itouch, so I am restricted to playing only when in a wi-fi area, which is so annoying at times. Although, yesterday my sister and brother-in-law were over at my house for breakfast and we were all playing each other, it was kind of funny, I guess we could have just gotten out the scrabble game!

    1. That is one of the things I always think about. We are sitting in the same room…we could grab the game and play IRL!

  3. Do you feel betrayed that we are on our 2nd or 3rd game already? And we are in the middle of one RIGHT NOW while I am reading your blog???? DO you??? DO YOU? He just played the word “TARRY” – once again – a word that I have NEVER heard of. Crap.

  4. I refuse to tell my husband about this game. I am not a fan of Scrabble and this looks like Scrabble. My husband is crazy good at Scrabble and for the sake of our marriage, I refuse to play with him.

  5. Talk of that game only fuels my desire for an iPhone even more. But my husband would never want to play the game.

  6. Oh my goodness, Derrick and I are doing the same thing! We’ve only got 3 games going right now though. But he is playing my sister too. And he says I’m not as fun to play with because I take all the good letters and I use all the good spots and I CHEAT by knowing too many words. Yes, we trash talk too. Sometimes out loud, sometimes on the little chat function. So glad to know we’re in good company!

    1. SO FUNNY. Yes, Shauna actually called after their first match to ask why Blog-Stedman was so smart…”is it because he is a doctor”. I was pretty proud of myself for using the word “Pons” today — triple word score. Oh ya.

    1. I am going to get you playing with my hubby ‘cuz I remember how mad your skilz are from FB scrabble…:)
