I went to the State Fair of Texas for the first time on Thursday.
I know! I know!
I have been claiming Texas as home for nearly 20 years, yet I hadn’t been to it’s
official fair…
oh, and speaking about OFFICIAL:
Yes, it is true.
Not only is the State Fair of Texas BIG, but it also boasts to be the “Fried Food Capital of Texas”.
I am not sure what other location has been vying for this title, but I will take their word for it.
Since I am in the fried food capital of Texas…
Let’s eat!

I will have to confess that it took us a few minute to decide on WHAT fried food was a
must-have.
I mean, the
fried butter is obvious, but what else?
Fried PB&J?
Fried Cookie Dough?
Fried Coke?
Fried PB&Banana?
Chicken-fried Bacon?
Fried Guacamole?
We settled on
fried coke…
fried cookie dough…

and the obvious
fried butter.

It was all a little frightening…especially when congregated together.

After extensive sampling, I declared a clear winner*…
FRIED BUTTER (which just tastes like a buttered biscuit)!
*By clear winner I mean the least offensive fried food**.
**By least offensive I mean something I could take more than one bite of***.
***By more than one bite, I don’t mean to infer that I will ever be eating it or any other fried food again.
Cheers from the Fried Food Capital of the World…

Now please come back tomorrow for a report on
The Smallest Horse in the World.
P.S. Heidi asked about the fried coke. Those of you who make it at home can correct me, BUT it appeared to me to be fried batter balls soaked in coke syrup. I didn’t care for it because it was OVERLY sweet. It was Blog-Stedman’s favorite of the three while we were there. On the way home he voiced fried coke regret.
Fried coke? I didn’t make it to the fair this year. I really wanted to try that fried butter because really, all of this baby weight is coming off Soooooo easily. Glad you enjoyed it. I <3 the fair.
I can’t wait to hear about the smallest horse… I was so tempted to check that out 🙂
I’m fried with envy!
Totally missing on the Fair this year. We used to go EVERY year. WAAAAH!!
What about fried Snickers or Oreos? Ah, you can try ’em next year… : )
My oldest daughter went to the county fair with a friend a few months ago. They charged $4 for a funnel cake. I told her that we can make a whole batch for that price. Then We did. They were good!
The next booth over was selling angioplasties, right?
I’d have to try the deep fried cookie dough. I mean, what’s not to love?
Very interesting~ I have seen some of these items at the Iowa State Fair, haven’t been brave enough to try them! I enjoyed your pics of these fried foods, as well as your blog.
Fried Coke Regret! HA! Too funny!
That’s it….I am coming to Texas!
fried oreos are the best! with deep fried avocados in a close second.
the fried coke we had was basically the syrup mixed with a batter and then deep fried. we didn’t like it either.
oh how i love state fairs!
