When we first find out we’re pregnant, we dream of the life that child is going to live. Will they be happy? Will they be healthy? Will they be kind, loving, loyal, patient? Will they have my eyes and your nose? And for some, these dreams…some of them, at least…come to a startling end at birth. Whether our child is born with a physical or developmental disability, so many dreams can fly right out the window. Still, and this is the biggest one, will they be happy never has to go away. Lexi and her mom Carmen were buying groceries, when they happened into Nicole’s line. Lexi has autism and down syndrome and seemed curious about the groceries being scanned. Without any prompting, Nicole asked if Lexi wanted to help. Take a look at what happened next.
“Nicole was an absolute sweetheart,” says mom, Carmen, about the interaction. She didn’t have to let Lexi help, but she chose that moment to help someone else be happy. So of those questions we ask when we’re pregnant? As long as there are people like Lexi and Nicole around, I think our kids will have very little to worry about.
