How to Write a Post in WordPress

To write a good story all you need is some basic facts, typing skills, and a flair for the dramatic!   Here at BurbMom we loves all things dramatic, after all we ARE moms!   Writing a post is simple, so simple in fact we’ve decided to write a post about writing a post!   We’re sure that once you see how simple it is there will be no stopping the stories…with that in mind, don’t be offended if we have to stage a blogging intervention! Login to BurbMom using your Login and password and then you’ll be directed to The Dashboard.   In The Dashboard look on the left-hand side menu and find the Section for Posts.   Under Posts you’ll see an option for “Add New,” click it. Once you click “Add New” the post editor will open up.   The first thing to do (purple arrow) it to Title Your Post.   This is the time to get creative, but also to include words that accurately describe your post! Next, check the editor (blue arrow) and make sure it says Visual.   If it says HTML, click the Visual tab to highlight it and then continue.   After that, you can just start typing (or pasting) your post into the editor (yellow arrow).   After you are done with the post, categorize it (green arrow) under Feature and then any other category as appropriate. Once you have titled, typed and categorized your post, add Tags (keywords) to the post so people can easily find your post.   Tags (keywords) are what the internet uses to find your posts when people search for certain words.   For example, if your post is about your recent trip to the local ice cream place you might include tags such as “ice cream in DFW, The Ice Cream Shoppe, kids eating ice cream, etc.”   Then, when someone goes to Google and types in “Local ice cream places in DFW”, the likelihood of someone coming across your post is much higher than posts with NO keywords. Also, make sure your name appears in the “Author” box as well. It should, but if it’s not, use the drop down menu to choose your name. Now that you are done with your post and tags, you need to save the post so we (BurbMom) can review it and then publish it.   To do this, click on the “Status – Edit” button and choose “Pending Review” from the drop down menu. Once you choose that look above the Status area (next to the Preview button) and you will see a button (orange arrow) that says “Save as Pending.” Click that and your post will save and then we will be notified that your post has been submitted for our review!
