Kids of all ages can help create these Super Simple Smiley Face Cookies. This edible cookie craft is so easy yet so cute. Who can resist smiling when a cookie is smiling back at you?
Older kids might like the challenge of making homemade Smiley Face Chocolate Chip Cookies, but these little yellow treats are made using store bought cookies, some lemon frosting and a few candies. Even very young children will be able to help decorate these smiley face cookies.
Super Simple Smiley Face Cookies
We used these as Super Bowl decorations one year just to lighten the mood of our team not being present!
You’ll Need:
Keebler Simply Made Butter Cookies (or other store bought round cookies)
Lemon Frosting (or tint vanilla frosting with yellow food coloring)
chocolate chips
black licorice laces
Instructions:
Gather all your ingredients, and set them out so they are easy for little hands to grab. Cut the licorice laces into pieces that are about 2 inches long.
Scoop out some of the lemon frosting and put it in a microwave safe bowl. Heat it on high for 10 seconds. Remove it from the microwave and stir. You want it liquid enough to dip the cookies into, but not so wet that it will run off the cookies. Heat longer if needed.
Turn a cookie upside down and dip the top of the cookie into the melted lemon frosting. Turn the cookie over and set down. If the frosting runs off the cookie, allow the frosting to cool slightly and try another one. You want the frosting to coat the tops of the cookies, but not be too runny. After dipping just a few cookies, add the decorations. The frosting needs to be wet in order for them to stick easily.
Press two chocolate chip eyes onto the cookie and add a licorice smile.
Allow the frosting to dry, then enjoy. If you want to make these to bring to a party or event, allow them to dry for an hour before stacking them.
