St. Patrick’s Day on Greenville Avenue in Dallas

Greenville Avenue is the hub of East Dallas.   While it is well known for its unique shops, restaurants, and bars, it is perhaps most famous for its St. Patrick’s Day celebration.   Since 1979, Dallas residents have been able to enjoy the party scene of the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade.   With hundreds of floats and reports of 100,000 attendees, this parade is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country.

She Is Dallas info: The St. Patrick’s Day parade will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2011.   It will begin at 11:00 am at the intersection of Park Lane and Greenville avenue and will travel south for approximately 2 miles.

The parade route starts getting crowded around 10:00 am so you have to plan to get there extra early if you don’t want to have to stand on your tippy toes in the back of the crowd to see anything.   Some say that the best viewing spot is near Central Market on the corner of Lover's Lane and Greenville Ave.

Parking near this area is very limited so consider riding a DART rail to the Lover’s Lane station.

The parade should wrap up around 2:00 pm.

By then, you may have already enjoyed your share of green beer and are just getting into party mode.   If so, then head over to Energy Square at Greenville and University for a great concert line up, featuring the Toadies.   You can purchase your concert tickets on their site in advance  for $12 or get them for $20 at the gate.

For all you runners out there, they also have a special St. Patrick’s Day event just for you.   Join the Dash Down Greenville 5K run which starts at 8:30 at the Central Market on Greenville Avenue at Lover’s Lane. For registration information on the Dash, please visit their website.   On-site registration is available for this event.
