I had my first breast cancer scare when I was 27 years old. I was in the shower and felt a small lump that I hadn’t noticed before. It was as if my life flashed before my eyes: I saw myself going through treatments, wondered if my family would be okay, wondered if I would live. Basically, I had a meltdown and had to pull it together before getting out and calling my doctor. It was terrifying. I went through a mammogram, then an ultrasound and ended with a biopsy before we figured out it was a benign tumor. Nothing to worry about. Still, going through that scary time gave me a different perspective on my breasts and my body in general, and I definitely do not take any unusual signs for granted. And you shouldn’t, either! Take a look!
I don’t want you to watch this and freak out like I did in the shower. Ideally you’ll watch it, talk to your doctor, and understand the risks and what you really should be looking for. I want you to be aware of what to look for, but don’t let it rule your life.
