When you’re the parent of a precocious three-year-old you know unexpected things are going to happen. A lot. And sometimes those things happen at the most unexpected time. Take little Estella Westrick. After waiting with her family in line for hours to see the Pope, when Estella leaned in to kiss him, the most unexpected thing happened: she stole his hat. Pope Francis loved it. You can tell from the look on his face and the sound of his laughter that this little girl was probably the most surprising and amazing thing to happen to him all day. Most of us haven’t gone through this with our children, but I’m sure we can all relate. For one, kids have minds of their own. They do what they do and no matter how much we want them to be ‘little adults’, kids will be kids. And that’s what I love about Pope Francis. He doesn’t just embrace that, he seems to truly love it.
