In the 80’s I was obsessed with Etch-A-Sketch. I loved turning the knobs and writing whatever I wanted, and then erasing it quickly before anyone could see. I got so good at it that I could draw and write and people could actually tell what I’d drawn or written. The only thing I hated is that I had no idea how it actually worked. In my mind there was some sort of magnetic dust and somehow it was attracted to the screen as I turned the knobs, but I had no idea HOW any of it worked. The truth is, it’s a whole lot cooler than that. I’d have never guessed what was inside an Etch-A-Sketch, but now that I know, it’s even cooler than it was before. Take a look!
I’m still not sure what exactly is inside the Etch-A-Sketch, but after seeing how it works, I’m cool with that. Whatever it is, it made my childhood amazing and I know my kids are having a blast with it now. I guess sometimes it doesn’t matter as much What it is as How it makes you feel.
