Let’s Make a Fruit Mural

Drawing and painting pictures is something that is ongoing at my house.  There is art on every table in various stages of genius.

I thought it would be fun to harness that creativity with a new medium.

Fruit!

Fruit Mural We created cookie sheet size edible works of art.  They were as delicious as they were fun to make.  Here is what we did:

How to Make a Fruit Mural

Each cookie sheet was covered with a cookie depth of sugar cookie dough.

fruit mural crust The giant sugar cookies were baked in the oven until they were lightly brown.

While the cookie crust was baking we mixed up the “canvas”.  For each cookie sheet you use, you will need one recipe of:

  • 1 package cream cheese {softened}
  • 2 cups COOL WHIP whipped topping
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 T lemon juice

fruit mural canvas
Mix it until it is smooth and spreadable.

Once the cookie crust is cool, then spread it with the COOL WHIP mixture.

While we were waiting for the cookies to cool, we practiced some knife skills on our art supplies.

fruit mural paint The boys cut grapes into halves and quarters, sliced bananas and planned their artwork.

I made the bird.

The boys art was a bit more abstract.  It started out as a road with banana slice dotted lines and progressed into a colorful modern masterpiece.

fruit mural kids I love this recipe.  It is modified from the fruit pizza recipe that I lived on through college.  It is super easy and my boys can complete almost all the steps without too much motherly intervention while expressing their creativity.

Moms throughout the ages have given a LOT of advice.

I remember when I was in grade school my mom started exercising and drinking 8 glasses of water a day.  I can still picture that blue semi-opaque glass that was perpetually by the sink.

Drink more water!

We are excited to be a part of Mom's Pure Wisdom on Nestle Pure Life Facebook Page.

Go!  I am a mom and I say so :).
